How We Work Together

At Wichita Counseling & Hypnotherapy, we help people make sense of the struggles that bring them to therapy, whether that’s pain from past experiences, ongoing stress, difficult relationships, or feeling stuck in old patterns.

We focus on you as a whole person, paying attention to what matters in your life now and how your experiences have shaped you. Your values, your story, and your goals guide the work we do together.

If it feels right for you, we may also use guided relaxation and imagery work as part of our time together. These tools are optional and always based on your comfort and goals.

Why People Seek Therapy

People come to counseling for many different reasons — to feel less overwhelmed, understand themselves better, improve relationships, cope with loss, navigate life transitions, or find calmer ways to handle emotional challenges.

You don’t need a label to benefit from therapy — you just need your own experience and the desire for something to be different.

What a Session is Like

In your first session, we’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, what you’ve tried before, and what you hope will be different. Sessions generally involve conversation that helps you notice thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and relationship patterns.

Some people also choose to use relaxation or imagery work during sessions — these are tools that can help deepen reflection and emotional awareness when useful and wanted.

Every part of the process is shaped by your needs and your pace.

A Message from Drew

 Founder Drew Amend, LSCSW, CHT

Hi I’m Drew. If you’re here, you’re likely thinking deeply about your next steps in life, relationships, or emotional well-being. That in itself takes courage.

I believe therapy is a space where your experiences, past and present all matter. It’s a place to explore patterns that no longer serve you, understand what’s been hard, and begin unfolding new ways of relating to yourself and others.

My approach is grounded in thoughtful conversation, careful listening, and respect for your pace and your story. We’ll work together to understand what’s happening for you, notice the emotional and relational patterns that show up again and again, and build ways of responding that feel more effective and more true to who you are.

Some people find it helpful to use guided relaxation or imagery during sessions, these tools can support deeper awareness and calm, and everything we do is chosen together with your comfort and goals in mind.

If you want a thoughtful, respectful space to explore what’s been weighing on you, not just cope with it, you’re welcome here.

Our Services Include
Traditional Talk-Therapy and Optional

We offer supportive counseling for emotional and relational concerns. Most of the work is rooted in collaborative, talk-based therapy tailored to your goals and experience.

Some clients choose to include guided relaxation and focused awareness techniques (sometimes referred to as hypnosis) as supportive tools. These are used only when comfortable and appropriate, and are always integrated into the therapeutic process — not separate from it. These methods are about focused attention and support for self-reflection, not loss of control or automatic change.

  • Traditional Talk Therapy: Evidence-informed approaches such as CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed therapy are used to support emotional regulation, coping skills, and insight development.

  • Hypnosis is never required: It is simply an additional tool that may be used if it is clinically appropriate and aligned with your preferences.

  • Optional Hypnotherapy: When used, hypnosis functions as an adjunctive experiential tool to support therapeutic work, not as a standalone or required intervention.

Final Thoughts

I’ve dedicated my work to helping individuals make sense of longstanding emotional patterns and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others. Whether you are navigating anxiety, recovering from difficult life experiences, or working through relational challenges, therapy can offer a structured and supportive environment for exploration and change.

My approach emphasizes understanding, collaboration, and respect for each person’s pace and readiness. This work is not about quick fixes or promises, but about engaging thoughtfully in a process that supports insight, regulation, and skill development over time.

Together, we’ll focus on understanding what may be contributing to your current difficulties and identifying practical, evidence-informed ways to move forward. Support is available, and you don’t have to approach this work alone.
